Lonely London Lad Contest #24: Win An Autographed LLL Double-CD on LLL Day!
A Contest just for 11/1: Announcing the Winner of the "1960's Contest"This contest overwhelmed me. I got hundreds of submissions -- all of them fascinating and causing me to get lost for hours exploring arcane songs and artists -- and since I didn't set any criteria for the win, I have been walking around all day asking myself what I hath wrought. It also prompted me to remember that I need to focus on finishing our second album, not somehow morph into a master of ceremonies. On top of that, so many of you named "Dr. Strangelove", that late last night I watched it in the LLL theatre and thoroughly enjoyed it, yet another distraction. But quite an interesting detour. Thanks to all who entered. A few clear faves among you LLLudites emerged: The most popular favorite album being The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"; the most oft-cited favorite movie being "Dr. Strangelove", and a recurrent favorite song being "Light My Fire". That said, there was such variety in the responses that to say these were "popular favorites" overstates the statistics. To give you an example, here are some other favorite albums mentioned: "Disraeli Gears", "Blonde on Blonde", "Trout Mask Replica", "Roger the Engineer", "Freak Out!", "Surrealistic Pillow", "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", etc. etc. Since you asked, my own personal favorites, at the moment, are... Song: Jefferson Airplane's "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon" (Woodstock performance); Album: "Music From Big Pink"; Movie: "Lawrence Of Arabia" So who is the winner and how was he/she chosen? He was chosen at random. It seemed the only way that would approximate fairness and not simply reinforce my own taste. The winner is Adam C., from Tucson, Arizona. His picks were "All My Loving", "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.", and "2001: A Space Odyssey". Apart from the movie, those weren't on my personal top 10 list, so you see it was chosen in an arbitrary way. So there. No hard feelings, mateys... Only one can win. And at the present rate, with all these submissions, you stand a better chance of catching a ball at a Major League ballgame (Odds: 563 to 1) than of winning one of these contests, but don't let that get you down -- You can always steal the money to get the CD, or put it on your wishlist for an upcoming holiday. :-) Once again, thanks to all of you who entered. Your choices were entertaining indeed. Oh, and on the near horizon I see the LLL wall poster, a big and beautiful piece of art that you'll have to have (or win)! |
Original Contest (Now Closed):
It's November 1st, the first day of the eleventh month, so "11/1" -- It's quite evocative of "LLL". Let's make it an international holiday, shall we? LLL Day. Can you win win win on one one one?
I just got back from a reckless and ultimately foolhardily fast drive in the country in my 1965 Aston Martin DB-5. I'm frankly amazed to still be alive! To have perished on LLL Day -- gasp! Anyhow, after covering 100 miles in just under an hour with one hand on a bottle of 1962 Cheval Blanc, in stereotypically-excessive stereotypically-rockstar fashion, I'm in a fab 60's mood and have a few infamous friends over. "See Emily Play" is blaring in the studio, and the place is alit with black lights and bubbling lava lamps. So here's the contest...
Name your single favourite song from the 60's, your single favourite album from the 60's, and your single favourite movie from the 60's, via my contact form.
I'll pick a winner based on completely arbitrary rules that I will make up on the spot, autograph one of our double-CD debut albums, and ship it off to wherever you may live in the world tomorrow morning.
That's it. A contest as strange and eccentric as our music.
For your listening pleasure whilst you think about the answer, here is a sample of some of the songs on the album. It will get the creative juices flowing within your brain, I'm sure.
